Our commitment
We assess learners fairly and consistently. A certificate is issued only when the learner has met the required course outcomes.
Assessment
Assessment must match the course and include practical demonstration where practical competence is required.
The assessor must be able to see enough evidence to make a sound decision for each learner.
Learners are told what they need to demonstrate and are given a fair opportunity to do so.
Practical skills
Learners must personally demonstrate the required practical skills. Watching another learner or completing only a written test is not enough where practical competence is required.
Reasonable adjustments may change how assessment is carried out, but they must not remove an essential competence requirement.
Assessment decisions
The assessor records whether the learner has met the required outcomes.
Where a learner has not yet met an outcome, the assessor should explain what was missing and, where practical, allow further practice and reassessment.
A learner who still does not meet the required outcomes is not issued with a successful completion certificate.
Reassessment
Reassessment should focus on the outcomes not yet achieved unless there is a clear reason to repeat a wider part of the assessment.
Any additional fee or separate booking requirement must be explained clearly.
Certificates
Certificates contain the information required by the applicable IVOSA certificate standard.
Before issue, we check the learner's name, course title, completion date and other required details.
We keep a record of certificates issued.
Corrections and replacements
A certificate may be corrected or replaced where information is wrong, the original is lost, or another reasonable need is shown.
The replacement record should show what was changed and why.
Certificate withdrawal
We may withdraw or cancel a certificate where it was issued in error, based on false information, or affected by serious malpractice.
The learner is told the reason and how to appeal.
Conflicts of interest
Assessors must declare any relationship or interest that could affect, or appear to affect, their judgement.
Where possible, another suitable person should review a disputed decision.
Appeals
Learners may appeal an assessment or certification decision under our Complaints and Appeals Policy.
Review
We review this policy at least once a year and sooner if standards or our assessment arrangements change.
This is a draft IVOSA model document (v1.0), for design and governance/legal review. It is not yet approved for live use.
