Our commitment

We provide first-aid training that is accurate, practical, inclusive and suitable for the course being delivered.

Trainers

We use trainers who have the qualifications, knowledge, practical skills and teaching ability needed for their role.

We check competence before a trainer delivers independently. We keep a simple record of qualifications, relevant experience, continuing professional development and any quality checks.

Trainers must keep their first-aid knowledge current and teach accepted first-aid practice.

Course content and delivery

We deliver the learning outcomes and practical skills required for each course.

Course plans, materials and timings must be suitable for the course, learners and delivery method. We allow enough time for explanation, practice, questions and assessment.

We do not shorten a course in a way that prevents learners from meeting the required outcomes.

Learner numbers

Group size must allow the trainer to supervise practice, answer questions and assess each learner properly.

We consider the number of trainers, available equipment, room size, learner needs and course type when setting class size.

Equipment and training environment

We use enough clean, safe and suitable equipment for every learner to take part in practical training.

Training venues must be safe, accessible where reasonably possible and suitable for the activities being carried out.

Damaged, unsafe or unhygienic equipment is removed from use.

Course monitoring

We collect learner feedback and review any complaints, incidents, assessment concerns or repeated areas of difficulty.

We carry out proportionate quality checks. These may include observing delivery, reviewing course records, sampling assessments or checking learner feedback.

A sole trader may use peer review, external observation or structured self-review where appropriate.

Improvement

We record important actions and make changes where a course, trainer, document or process needs improvement.

Serious concerns are acted on before further delivery where necessary.

Records

  • what course was delivered and when;
  • who delivered it;
  • who attended;
  • how learners were assessed;
  • what certificates were issued;
  • any significant quality concern and action taken.

Review

We review this policy at least once a year and sooner if standards, guidance or our way of working changes.
